About us

This blog is one of the main aspects of  Armenian and Azerbaijani Women’s Narratives , a project sponsored by the Eurasia Partnership Foundation as part of its “Youth Community Activism trough New Media” program.
Whether in conflict, in peace or in the current state of stalemate, women’s voices on both sides of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border are rarely heard in mainstream discourse. Women often feel like they don’t have a voice whether it be in their personal and family lives, in their community or in the affairs of their country.
Furthermore, it is important for women to hear other women’s stories. This lets them know that they are not alone and that those on the other side of the conflict also share their stories. In our joint Armenia-Azerbaijan project we want to create an opportunity for women from both countries to tell their stories and to hear the stories of other women.
The symbol (logo) of this project is the pomegranate, which is a symbol both countries have in common. This fruit is representative of the struggle of our peoples, including women's issues, their common stories and hope for a resolution.
Throughout the months of December of 2011into March of 2012, two teams of bloggers and activists in both Armenia and Azerbaijan will interview women of different ages and backgrounds, both in the capitals of Yerevan and Baku and of course in the regions. We will ask them about their lives, their hopes and wishes for themselves, their families and their countries.
This is the reason behind the name of the project: women's narratives. These interviews are going to be transcribed, edited and translated so they will be accessible in three languages: Azeri, Armenian and English.
Over the period mentioned above these interviews will gradually appear on this blog.
Thank you for your interest.
